Unforgettable trip

Kontogiallos Beach, an Ideal Holiday Destination

There is a definitive difference between the East and West coasts of Corfu Island. No better or worse but experientially diverse. On the East coast the sun rises of course whereas on the West coast one catches the setting sun. The great thing about Corfu is that the island’s size allows you to experience both in the same day!

The west coast of Corfu Island is characterized by long sandy beaches that echo golden light in the setting sun. The twilight hours are longer and the infinite horizon tempts the imagination from afar. The Mediterranean Sea tides lick away at the shores keeping them clean and changing their size and shape every year anew.

Most beaches on the west coast have shallow waters and hardly any rocks in the sea. This keeps the temperature steady and generally warm whilst the crystal clear waters sparkle with a blinding intensity. There is a series of beaches one could group as the central east coast due to their geographical location and their proximity to Corfu Town which has made them an ideal holiday destination. They have regular bus services, good road access and quality accommodation for all budgets.

Mirtiotissa, Glyfada, Kontogiallos, Gialiskari and Agios Gordios beaches are easily rated amongst the top Blue flag beaches of Mediterranean Europe. Whether you choose to stick to just one or visit a few during your stay you are guaranteed a memorable experience. Kontogiallos beach is also known as Pelekas beach as it sits at the foot of the hillside village of Pelekas. Kontos means short in Greek and although it is by no means a small beach Kontogiallos is shorter than its sister beach Glyfada to its immediate north.

Kondogiallos was a sixties haunt for many Scandinavian and other northern European countries who spent the summer long months living on the beach and making merry. Some even held their wedding ceremonies here and come back year after year. Today Kontogiallos is as popular amongst visitors as it is for Corfu Town locals. The modern Pelekas Beach Hotel complex that occupies the southern end of the beach tastefully sits amongst the olive groves on the slopes of Pelekas Hill. There are many apartment and studio style accommodations available.

Many apartments and studios offer excellent accommodation for independent travelers. Accessible and yet private, friendly and reasonably priced these Corfu apartments are ideal for vacation with your family or your friends. They are fully equipped with amenities to make your stay as fulfilling as you want it to be and a front seat view that takes your breath away.
